A Microcontroller Based Digital Vector Impedance Meter With Sampling Reduction

Abstract This paper proposed the microcontroller based vector impedance meter, which can be used to measure unidentified impedance of the system. The microcontroller read only four samples from two voltage signals, the first voltage is proportional to the voltage across the impedance while the second voltage is proportional to the current passing through it. A novel algorithm is then used to get a digital words that are proportional to the impedance phase and magnitude. In this study, the unknown impedances were calculated by the microcontroller at several frequency values. When compared with standard precision LCR (Inductance, Capacitance, Resistance) meter, the result of the measured impedance from the microcontroller has revealed the impedance with less than 1% error, which suggested that proposed method is a perfectly innovation method for identifying the unknown impedance.
